This class is open to oil painters of all levels, with half of your day en plein air and the other half in the studio.

PLEIN AIR PAINTING

Learn to approach nature directly, and translate what you see onto your canvas.  You will begin with a contour drawing of the scene with a focus on interconnecting shapes.  Then, you will evaluate your composition and simplify your color choices to create a balanced painting.  Discussion of these techniques will emphasize value, the difference between warm and cool colors, and the importance of edgework.

Louise will work with you individually at your easel, and will encourage you to develop a fresher, bolder color palette. 

STILL LIFE PAINTING

Half the day will be in the studio painting a still life under natural light.  Painting will be "alla prima" - direct from life.  Emphasis will be on drawing, values, color and edges.  After painting outdoors, your painting in the studio will have more beautiful color.
