Live Art! is an 11-day elder-lead and Ojibwe-catered community gathering led by Becky Wygonik and crew featuring a series of workshops and open builds that are free and open to community members of all-ages and skill levels.
This first workshop invites participants to partake in local food and share stories, wisdom, hardships, and jokes. These community conversations will inform the design of two or more large (12+ feet tall) elder puppets.
The following workshops will teach participants how to create puppets from the beginning concept stages through every step of construction and finishing details.
The workshops will culminate with a dramatic entrance and procession in the Madeline Island Fourth of July Parade where our collaboratively constructed elder puppets can tower over the crowd and remind spectators of the protection and wisdom of those who have come before us.
